TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
Dancers who understand where movement comes from will perform it better and create culturally aware choreography. My classes connect the history of hip hop dance through its origins in vernacular jazz dance to current popular steps and how they became mainstream. My work aims to bridge the gap between commercial choreography and context to create thoughtful, powerful artists who not only perform with excellence, but positively contribute to the future of hip hop dance and the communities who created it. I am both a teacher and a forever student; modeling for my dancers that the journey of learning and dancing never ends.
